At last! At last! a sensible poltician! Congressman Bill Sali proposes a Bill:
Since Congress will apparently not be restrained by the laws and principles that naturally exist, I propose that the force of gravity by the force of Congress be reduced by 10 percent. Mr. Speaker, that will result in immediate weight loss for every American. It will immediately help reduce obesity problems in America. Weight loss will also help to promote the overall health of Americans as we have been vigilantly advised by our health care.
His point being that Congress, in raising the minimum wage, is breaching the laws of economics just as much as as mandating a change in gravity makes any difference to our weights.
The first sadness is of course that raising the minimum wage is worse: it isn't a joke in its effects. All those whose labour is worth more than the new, higher, level will keep their jobs, all those whose labour is worth less will lose theirs. Forcing poor people to be unemployed is not known as a great way to help the poor.
The second sadness is of course that no one took a blind bit of notice.
