Two For the Weekend

Friday, 7th September 2007

As us seasoned blogosphere hands know, post 4 pm friday afternoon traffic collapses, to rise again post 10 am Monday morning. There's not a single person looking at their own traffic statistics who doesn't know that most of the reading and watching is done from the office.

So just before the bar comes down, two for the weekend. Brad Setser on just where the dollars purchasing US corporate debt might be coming from. Or, if you prefer, just because it's coming from Europe doesn't mean it's actually Europeans really buying it.

Something far more important as the second matter. An explanation of what all this finance stuff is really about: the funding of new technology. All the billions, trillions even, spent on computing, telecoms, the net and the web have been spent so as to enable us to enjoy this. A semi-pro baseball player on guitar, a song by an illiterate car assembly worker, the video of characters from an online game. It's better than I've made it sound. Really.
