The ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike shows no sign of ending, despite having dragged on for over two months, a period in which hundreds of assistants and production staff have lost their jobs. Undeterred by the woes of their junior colleagues, the Writers’ Guild of America (WGA) has promised the industrial action against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will be a “marathon”.

Among the sticking points is the issue of distributing content online. The writers feel they were short changed by the 20-year-old home video deal (which also covers DVDs) and are unwilling to let media companies test new internet distribution methods without ensuring they get a hefty cut of revenues.
